Search Strategy
Begin With the End in Mind!
The late Stephen Covey set out to write a self-help book for use by individuals in 1989. However, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People turned out to be so much more! It has become a classic work for students and managers in leadership roles and programs. You might want to read it from cover to cover!
It appears on this page however because of the power of Habit #3: Begin With the End in Mind. 37 million readers can't be wrong, and we'd like to share that concept with you.
Effective (successful) people "get it done" because they share several qualities. This Habit refers to setting goals.
Successful people know where they want to go. They can visualize themselves at the finish line doing exactly what they set out to accomplish. Knowing where they want to be at the end of their journey, effective people work backwards and identify all the important skills, certifications, networks, and other resources or events that need to be developed, created, or completed. That is, they develop a task list or "roadmap" that articulates everything they need to do to get from where they are to where they want to go.
Begin With the End in Mind. What is YOUR goal? What needs to be completed in order to achieve that outcome?
You are encouraged to develop a job search strategy. Focus on the desired outcome and begin to back-map your path to identify specific benchmarks that need to be met. What are your greatest challenges? How will you meet them? What resources do you have? What help do you need?
